Obituary
ROBERT LEROY JESSEN, 77, of Jackson Twp., NJ, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at home. He was born in Perth Amboy, NJ and resided in South Amboy, NJ and Morganville, NJ, prior to settling in Jackson Twp. 31 years ago.
Bob was employed as a journeyman ironworker for Ironworkers Union Local 373, Perth Amboy for over 37 years prior to his retirement in 2002. After his retirement from ironworking, Bob was also employed by the Red Cross, Tinton Falls, NJ. Additionally, throughout both careers, he also worked at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park for 50 years.
In addition to being a loving husband and best friend to his wife, Susan, Bob was a devoted friend and mentor to many. Bob dedicated his life to serving others. For 60 years, he served in various capacities in the field of Emergency Services. Bob was Director of Emergency Services of Raceway Park for over 35 years and an EMT instructor for the Ocean County Fire EMS Academy as well as for MonOc. Bob was a life member of the Morganville First Aid and Berkeley Twp. Underwater Search and Rescue as well as a member of the Robertsville Fire Company.
Bob loved all forms of motorsports and was an aviation buff. He was a competitive shooter and a member of the Cowboy Action Shooting Society, the Jackson Hole Gang, where he made many friends locally and during the interstate competitions. Additionally, Bob was a former member of the Oddfellows Lodge, Perth Amboy.
He was predeceased by his parents, Robert Martin and Ruth Marie Jessen. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Susan Jessen; his sister, Ruth Ann Ulrich and her husband, Raymond of South Amboy, NJ; his nephews, Brian Ulrich and his wife, Shelly, and Raymond Ulrich; his nieces, Samantha and Alison Mautner; and by his brother-in-law, Cliff Mautner.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial visitation from 1-4 PM with a family remembrance service at 4 PM on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at the GEORGE S.
