Late last week, Thom Veety of Action Photos announced that he was retiring from his business of motocross photography.
Thom has been a fixture of the Northeast moto scene since the 1970s and has no doubt shot photos of every racer in the New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania at some point during their career.
Over the course of 40+ years of shooting images, Thom covered Loretta Lynns for 29 years, the Mini Os for 20 years, 3 years of Ponca City, 3-wheel Nationals, Quad Nationals, and countless District 6 and District 34 motocross events.
He’ll be shutting down his Smugmug page on September 20 so now is the time to order photos before they are gone. Here is a link to the site Thom Veety’s Action Photos
I have albums full of Action Photos from back when I used to race and when I began Lukaitis Photo in the 2000s I was fortunate to spend time with Thom on the track capturing images. I often go back through the old photos reliving my old racing memories and fortunately have them because of Thom’s hard work.
Many riders will remember the albums of photos that Thom set up each race morning for everyone to flip through and purchase photos from. Thom still has many of these albums and NJ Motocross has been in contact with him to digitize many of these old images. Plans are in the works to gather this history and share it on the pages of NJ Motocross. Stay tuned for the posts.
In the meantime, enjoy your retirement Thom and thanks for the memories.
